Line-us is pretty robust and is lubricated at the factory during assembly but a little maintenance from time to time will keep your Line-us happy. We’ve done quite a lot of testing and if you draw one drawing a day you probably need to lubricate Line-us once a year. There’s no harm doing it more often though, and if you Line-us gets stuck in the up position, or starts making more of a grindy noise when it lifts then it’s time to get your oil can out.
The process isn’t too difficult. You’ll need:
- Some light oil. 3 in one is good, WD40 is definitely not!
- A piece of soft lint free cloth or kitchen roll
- Optional, but recommended is some Silicone Grease.
- If you’re using the grease something like a small screwdriver to get it onto the cam
Here’s what to do:
-
Unscrew the two silver caps from the vertical rods and remove the springs.
-
Lift the body of your Line-us up and off from the two vertical shafts.
-
With a cloth or piece of kitchen roll wipe the shafts to remove any old oil or dirt.
-
Put a drop of 3 in One (or similar light oil) on the cloth or kitchen roll and wipe it on the shafts. You don’t need much at all and you only need to cover the middle 1/3 of the shafts.
-
This bit is optional but we do recommend putting a little bit of silicone grease on the cam. Wipe off any old grease and use the tip of a screwdriver to put a tiny bit of grease on the bottom of the cam.
-
Congratulations! Your Line-us is now lubricated and all you need to do is to put it back together. Put the Line-us back on the two shafts. Be sure that the base is the right way round otherwise Line-us won’t fit back in its case. The long side of the base is on the same side as the arm.
-
Pop the springs back on and screw the caps back on.
And that’s it - you’re ready to draw again.
